Michael Dawson says the man management and motivational skills that have helped Harry Redknapp to transform Tottenham’s fortunes could have a similar impact on the national team.

Redknapp took over a struggling Spurs side who had famously collected just two points from their first eight Premier League games in 2008, but has since led the Lilywhites into the Champions League – and is set to do so again this season.

The 64-year-old's success at White Hart Lane has made him the outstanding candidate to replace Fabio Capello.

And England international Dawson believes that the Spurs boss' particular skills would give him a strong chance of restoring the Three Lions' shaky confidence ahead of Euro 2012.

"He certainly lets you go out there and play," said the defender. "I think if you look at the way we play on a regular basis, not just against Newcastle, we go out there and the lads certainly play with no fear. We have put the ball at risk at times, but we just express ourselves.

"I think the fans realise what he has done since he came in. We were in a bad situation in the league table, with players playing below par – and it's a lot of the players that are here now.

"He's lifted everyone so of course the fans are going to be happy when we're putting on performances like we did against Newcastle, and where we are in the league table."
