As temperatures plunge across London and the UK, Haringey’s gritting crews have been out on the borough’s roads.

The council’s waste contractor, Veolia, is undertaking frost patrols at night and is ready with gritting machines whenever a widespread frost or snow is expected.
Last night, with severe frost expected in parts, the crews spread salt on much of the borough’s road network. They will be on standby over the weekend to deal with any snowfall and gritting lorries will work round the clock if necessary on priority roads and bus routes.
Cllr Nilgun Canver, cabinet member for environment, said: “We are keeping an eye on the forecasts and we will do all we can to keep the roads open and traffic flowing, whatever the weather. Where frost or ice is forecast we have teams surveying roads and treating where necessary to prevent accidents and traffic congestion.
“With snow possibly forecast at the weekend we are prepared and ask residents to treat their own paths where necessary and please be mindful of neighbours who may need help.”
