Meat People, in Essex Road, opened its doors in January and offers tasty slabs of beef, quirky and classic drinks, and specialist meats like springbok and kanagaroo, all served in Grade II listed art-deco surroundings.

The building was originally known as Alfredo’s, a cafe opened by the Deritis family in 1920, and until recently was the home of sausage and mash shop S and M.

The interior decor is such that part of cult film Quadrophenia was filmed there.

Meat People is open daily for lunch between 12noon and 3pm and dinner from 6 to 11pm, call 020 7359 5361 for reservations.
