Skolars are Ram-raided

LONDON Skolars were swept aside in the Northern Rail Cup by Dewsbury, who lost just two games last season.

The icy conditions very nearly rendered the match unplayable, and the Skolars were soon caught cold as Dewsbury set about establishing an early lead, with Rob Spicer crashing through the defence.

Each of the Rams' first four tries came on the back of Skolars conceding penalties, as Rob Lunt, Mike Emmett and Bryn Powell all crossed the line.

Further tries for Scott Turner and Scott Watson pushed the home side into a 30-point lead, before prop Adam Robinson stormed to the try-line from halfway.

Skolars enjoyed more possession in the second half with Lamont Bryan enjoying a couple of runs which saw him barging off the defence.

Fellow forwards David Williams and Liam Prescott worked worked hard, but there was no way through the Dewsbury defence and the Yorkshire side scored three more tries through Andy Bostock, James Haynes and a second for Lunt.

The Londoners' hard work finally paid off in the last 10 minutes when they got the ball out wide for teenager Smokie Junior to score.

An otherwise clean game saw Skolars' Liam Prescott sent off after throwing a punch, receiving the red card on a stretcher after Anthony England had retaliated, and the Dewsbury player was also given his marching orders in the final moments.
