Lap dance club battle not over yet

I SEE Haringey Council has become one of the first local authorities in Britain to adopt strict rules to make it much easier to stop lapdancing clubs and similar venues opening in the borough (Journal, July 22).

I'm delighted that the council has

acted so quickly to take up these powers and I hope we never see another application for a lapdancing club in Haringey again.

But the fight is not over. As Labour's Councillor Nilgun Canver put it in your article, such establishments "exploit women and undermine our commitment to equality" - and it isn't enough just to kick them out of our borough. They don't belong in the West End either - the only place they belong is in the history books.

Thanks to Haringey for their quick move on this, but let's keep up the pressure to get rid of these degrading and exploitative businesses once and for all. - Tim Waters, Cunningham Road, N15.
