A WOULD-be robber armed with a handgun was chased from a park by a brave passer-by after trying to wrestle

a bag from a woman.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information about the incident, which occurred in broad daylight in Priory Park, near the entrance in Middle Lane, Hornsey, on Monday.

The 39-year-old victim was walking in the park when she was approached by the hooded suspect at about 11am, who produced what appeared to be a handgun and grabbed her bag.

A struggle ensued and the thug hit the woman's wrists with the butt of the gun, but made off empty-handed when the victim's shouts alerted a passer-by who gave chase.

They ran after the armed man along Middle Lane and into High Street, Hornsey, but was unable to catch him.

Police attended, and the woman was treated for bruising and swelling to her wrists in hospital.

She was later discharged.

Police are appealing for anyone with information on the incident to come forward. The suspect is described as a black male aged 15 to 19, about 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, wearing a hooded top and dark trousers.

Anyone with information should

contact Detective Constable Rob Spearman of Haringey CID on 020 8345 0870 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A 16-year-old male arrested on suspicion of robbery has been bailed to return to police on August 12, pending further inquiries.
