Stench forces man to give up two dogs
A ELDERLY man whose smelly dogs upset neighbours has agreed to part with two of his pets after being taken to court by Haringey Council.
Terence Duncan, of Canning Crescent, Tottenham, was prosecuted for failing to clean up his house properly after an order was handed out by environmental health inspectors.
They were called at his home after residents complained about the stench from Mr Duncan's flat, caused by his four dogs.
At the end of the case, Mr Duncan said he would give up his two eldest dogs as he could no longer look after them.
He said he would keep his two younger pets - but pledged to clean up his home and keep the dogs in a hygienic state.
Councillor Nilgun Canver, Haringey's cabinet member for enforcement and safer communities, said: "There
have been no allegations of cruelty but Mr Duncan's elderly dogs were becoming smelly
and he was not in a position to deal with that.
"It is sad but he now feels he can look after the two remaining dogs and keep his home clean."
Mr Duncan was order was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay the full prosecution costs of £380.40.
His two older dogs have now been re-homed by Haringey Council's animal warden.
