'Speeding' bus drivers told to slow down
 | | People living in Priory Road say buses regularly cause speed signs to flash |
DOUBLE-decker bus drivers have been called on to slow down in Hornsey as they are frequently clocked speeding, it is claimed.
Speed signs in Priory Road are designed to flash a warning at a driver when the vehicle is travelling at more than 30mph.
But residents and campaigners have become increasingly alarmed - they claim the signs are often being set off by the double-decker vehicles.
Chico Pacheco, a residents' association leader who lives in Park Avenue South, said: "It is incredible that invariably it is buses which are breaking the speed limit. This has been witnessed by many people living in the area."
Chris Barker, secretary of Bus Watch West Haringey - which campaigns on behalf of bus passengers - said he had been alerted to the issue.
Mr Barker, of Redston Road, said: "It is something which we need to bring up with London Buses." He said he was in regular contact with London Buses over the "general behaviour" of bus drivers.
He said: "It is something which we have taken up quite a lot based on the how many people complain to us, particularly older people who have difficulty hanging on when the drivers set off or stop too quickly. London Buses are very aware of the problem."
A spokeswoman for London Buses said she was unable to comment before the Journal went to press.
