Noisy squatters evicted from TUC
A GROUP of squatters occupying the TUC building on Crouch End Hill, who infuriated residents by playing loud music day and night over the weekend, were evicted on Monday.
The council's noise team had to tell them to keep it down on Saturday evening and in the early hours on Sunday as music boomed out.
Haringey Council received a total of nine complaints over the weekend about the squatters.
Sue Hessel, chairwoman of Haslemere Residents' Association, said: "It's a big building. There are a lot of elderly people in this part of Crouch End. The squatters are not being fair. They are not being considerate in having very loud music. I understand it went on Sunday morning."
A spokesman for Haringey Council said on Monday: "There were nine complaints in all over the weekend. On the Saturday evening a noise abatement notice was served. Noise enforcement officers attended with police and the organisers complied with a request to keep the music down.
"Following further complaints an enforcement officer also visited on Sunday. At that time the noise was not audible in the street or from complainant's home. The officer again spoke to occupiers and requested that the noise be kept down. Occupiers were evicted this morning.
